Labs
The access corridor of the lecture hall also leads to the zone with the light laboratories. This extensive open space is equipped with containers around the sides and divided into two distinct zones: the glass sheet cutting zone and the lab itself.
The cutting zone includes the glass sheet storage area and a work area with a big table the sheets can be cut on.
The laboratory itself is equipped with workbenches for the various glassworking activities:
The access corridor of the toilets also leads to the cold glassworking labs and the kiln room. Both labs are closed off by doors from the rest of the space, for class layout, distribution and in particular practical reasons.
The cold glassworking lab has a zone for glassworking "gesso" moulds, and for other jobs such as cleaning articles, filling moulds with glass granules, mixing glass for panels, etc. There is also a zone with glass sandblasting machines, and a zone with equipment for grinding, cutting and polishing glass. When the sandblasters are being used they are connected to a centralized extraction plant.
The kilns for firing and hot glass working are installed in the kiln room. These are refractory brick and fibre kilns with electric heating elements used to heat the glass to temperatures between 500 and 1200 °C to finish or modify the articles. There is a table in the kilns’ room where 8 small gas burners (propane + oxygen) can be installed for lamp blowing pearls and small blown glass objects. The space has an air extraction system and is kept under a low vacuum when in use.
