Glass painting
The main objective of this course is to introduce the basic knowledge needed to paint glass with grisaille, enamel, silver yellow techniques.
At the same time, students will develop their skills in freehand drawing, observing objects and painting them with strokes and chiaroscuro effects, with particular focus on the most practical techniques and approaches used in glass painting. The painting with light philosophy is considered very important. It is the skill of modulating and dominating the light effects of the glass panel through painting, both from a traditional and experimental perspective.
The course is divided into two parts: During the first year, students learn the glass painting technique, introducing materials, preparing grisailles, brushes and application techniques. The first topics covered are the threading stages, the modelling and application of enamels and silver yellow. Each topic is covered separately, and at the end students will realise a complete work. In the second part, laboratory practice will be held in collaboration with the lead caming course. This experience is just like a real workshop, and students will be commissioned to produce a big stained glass window.
Students must face and solve issues related to stained-glass realisation, with special attention to technical aspects, availability, the cost of materials, and organisation of work hours.
