Home Techniques Lead & Copper Caming

Lead and copper caming

The main objective of the subject is to transmit the basic knowledge needed to design and realise lead camed stained glass windows. At the same time, students will develop a greater aesthetic sensitivity to the lead caming technique and later they will be able to explore the expressive potential of this technique.

This is a two-year subject, with the first year focused on learning and improving techniques, knowledge of materials and processing phases, with a focus on cutting to shape and lead caming. In the second year, topics related to the planning and development of this subject’s potential will be covered in depth.

Students will make a series of small windows, starting with common geometrical and decorative designs, to finish with free topics. During the second year, students work in groups in order to realise a public work. They will deal with all the aspects of a major job, from taking measurements to the final installation.

As regards the design, the graphic value of the plumb line and the chromatic and light relationship of the stained-glass with the context in which it is placed are very important. Moreover, it is possible to make special single glass sheets to be fitted in glass panels, combining the techniques learnt in these lessons with those on fusion and glass painting.
